What is L-carnosine?
L-carnosine is a naturally-occurring amino-acid that is used in various cellular functions in the body. It is found in many parts of the body such as the heart and muscles. It can be obtained in the diet from foods such as red meat.
Some sources state that this may not be sufficient to increase blood levels of carnosine as its quickly broken down by a natural enzyme called carnosinase.
What does L-Carnosine do in the body?
Some sources state that L-carnosine can scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) and it buffers pH in muscle cells. It also acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain. It can be made from beta-alanine and histidine and it can reduce the rate of formation of advanced glycation end-products.
Each tablet contains 250mg of L-carnosine. As a dietary supplement, take 2 capsules 3 times a day or as directed by your physician.
